Treating the elderly requires specialized skills and training. And because every community has an aging population, each resident participates in the geriatrics rotation. This curriculum includes daily didactic sessions and time learning in a variety of settings such as:
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Outpatient clinics
- Nursing homes
- Housecall programs
- Comprehensive geriatric assessment clinic
- Osteoporosis clinic
- Memory clinic
In these settings, residents will learn how to evaluate and treat dementia and geriatric syndromes while becoming proficient with a variety of screening tools used in geriatric medicine.
