CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
OBJECTIVES:
- To give proper and timely referrals.
- To accurately diagnosis lower extremity disease using physical examination, bio-mechanical evaluations when appropriate, and laboratory and radiological investigations.
- To know proper surgical procedure selection.
- To learn to critique published papers and reports for accuracy and credibility .
- Demonstrate proper judgement in the diagnosis and treatment of:
- Tinea pedis
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Neuromas
- Tenidinitis
- Capsulitis/metatarsalgia
- Heel spur syndrome/fasciitis
- Rheumatic diseases
- Exostosis
- Structural abnormalities/boney abnormalities
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- PVD
- Healing of skin/bone
- Systemic diseases
- Casting/immobilization
- Treatment of all dermatological conditions
- Fracture management, sx and non sx
- Diabetes
- Systemic
- Wound care
- Prevention
- Education
TASKS:
- Become actively involved with each patient seen in the Podiatry Clinic in order to develop the necessary clinical regimen.
- Assist in supervising Podiatric and Medical Students rotating through the Podiatry Clinic.
- Present all surgical candidates, and all patients with interesting, unique, and/or patients with problems that are difficult to manage to the attending staff physician during Grand Rounds. In doing so, the resident will develop the necessary thought process for adequate treatment, planning and diagnosis.
- Participate in all departmental educational meetings, discussions, and cadaver dissection.
- Prepare for publication, a scientific paper, case report or literature review.
