Board of Managers
January 12th, 2017
Fort Worth banker Charlie Powell has been named chairman of JPS Health Network’s governing Board of Managers.
Powell officially became chairman at the board’s January 12 meeting, the first of 2017, taking the reins from the Rev. Ralph Emerson, whose chairmanship expired at the end of the year. The chairmanship changes hands every two years.
Dr. Charles Webber, a Fort Worth surgeon, was named vice chair.
JPS is Tarrant County’s tax-supported health network. The 11-person Board of Managers is appointed by Tarrant County Commissioners to provide leadership and set strategic direction in fulfilling the network’s mission to transform healthcare delivery for the communities that JPS serves.
Powell has been in banking for more than 30 years, including 15 years as president and chief operating officer of Bank of Texas Fort Worth Region. In 2015, Powell became president of Ciera Bank Fort Worth region.
Well-known for community engagement, Powell has served on a variety of boards and championed numerous causes. He and his son, James, received the 2016 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award from the Fort Worth Metro Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as the first father-and-son team to chair the United Way of Tarrant County’s annual campaign. Powell also serves as the Board of Managers liaison to the JPS Foundation Board.
In addition to Powell, Webber and Emerson, the JPS Board of Managers includes Dorothy DeBose, Roger Fisher, Dr. Rex Hyer, Dr. Roy Lowry, Steve Mongomery, D.T. Nguyen, Warren Norred and Trent Petty.
