Storm-related blood demand

August 28th, 2017

The need for donated blood is expected to remain high in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Anyone able to donate blood is urged to participate in the next blood drive at JPS on September 15. Carter BloodCare will be in the OPC Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Carter is among suppliers being called upon to support the needs of hospitals in Southeast Texas, where blood donation will be disrupted by the storm and recovery efforts.

“All blood collections agencies in the U.S. are making every effort to meet the emergency blood needs of patients and ensure a sufficient blood supply in storm affected areas,” says the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). “It is important for blood donors to give in the coming days and weeks to meet the immediate and future needs in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.”

JPS blood donors can sign up in advance to reserve a time to donate. Donors need to bring a state-issued photo I.D. (in addition to your JPS badge). The OPC Auditorium is on the third floor of the Main Hospital, 1500 S. Main St., near the red elevators. Donors can collect points redeemable for gift cards and merchandise.
