Carla Kuaiwa, Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer
Carla Kuaiwa has been in HR for over 20 years. She served ten years in the United States Air Force where she met her husband. She spent 14 years in healthcare at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston where she led hospital and enterprise-wide projects around mergers and acquisitions, employee engagement, workforce performance, and human capital initiatives. While at Memorial Hermann, Carla also served as a Service Line Administrator for Orthopedics and Medicine and managed Volunteer Services, Patient Relations, and Community Relations. She then worked as an independent consultant for a number of years working with different industries in oil and gas, healthcare, engineering, retail, and non-profits, where she (re)built the HR infrastructure to standardize and streamline systems, programs, and processes, and developed HR Centers of Excellence in the areas of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Compensation & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Business Partnership, Organization Development, and HR Analytics.
As a Human Resources professional, Carla has been involved in strategic HR development from start-ups to global organizations. Carla has full oversight of all HR-related functions. Her passion is people, creating a culture that makes people show up with their best self.
Her husband retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service and is now working as a lawyer. They have two independent adult children who are graduates of Texas A&M. Carla has an undergraduate degree in Social Psychology, a graduate degree in Human Resources and Management, and another graduate degree in Business Administration. She is a Certified Strategic HR Executive from the Academy to Innovate HR, a Stakeholder-Centered Executive Coach, a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and holds multiple certifications in leadership assessments. Carla was named one of the Top 30 Most Influential Women by Houston Woman Magazine in 2016.
Carla has also dedicated her time serving the community. She has served as a Board Member for Asian Pacific American Heritage Association, Asian Chamber of Commerce, and Soleana Stables.
