Delivery With a Smile

Healthcare supply chain professionals

Healthcare supply chain professionals play a vital role in their organization, from their contributions to patient care to the innovative ways they respond to supply chain distributions.

Supply chain professionals are responsible for handling all supplies that come through JPS Health Network.

“Anything delivered to the network, from paperclips to machines, comes through us,” Jorge Valencia, Network Recall Manager said. “We open the packages, make sure all items listed on the packing slips are in the boxes, then receive it in and deliver it to the departments. This also includes outside clinics.”

The commitment from these professionals keeps JPS stocked with much needed supplies. During daily shipments they receive 500 to 600 boxes, and they deliver 150 to 200 boxes throughout the network Monday through Friday.

“It’s a rewarding job for us. People don’t see us much because we’re in the background, so we try to get 100% customer satisfaction,” Valencia said. “A lot of people don’t know there’s a warehouse, but that’s a good thing because that means we’re doing our job by getting them all the supplies they need.”

Supply chain professionals are dedicated to providing the best service in their continuously changing environment. For Sammie Wilson, Receiving Stores Technician, serving his JPS community has been what he’s enjoyed most about his 24 years at JPS.

“I love helping the visitors. That’s the good part about it,” Wilson said. “Because it’s not about us. It’s about the patients.”

Wilson said each morning he breaks down, receives, and stocks supplies. After he finishes stocking, he delivers them to different floors throughout the hospital.

“I enjoy my job because I’m not in one spot all day. I get to meet different people and get to know them,” Wilson said.

Wilson takes pride in being a friend to everyone he comes across. He welcomes everyone with a smile on his face and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

“With Sammie, it’s not just a professional relationship. He’s got a personal relationship with each employee as well,” Valencia said. “We’re not just here as a department for business, we’re a family.”
