McBride Named Frontline Nurse of the Year

Emergency Department RN Chelsea McBride honored by Fort Worth Weekly for work fighting COVID.

Emergency Department Registered Nurse Chelsea McBride has been named the Readers’ Choice as Frontline Nurse of the Year by Fort Worth Weekly Magazine in its “Best of 2020” issue.

McBride said she was honored to even be nominated for the award, but she never expected that she’d win it.

“This has been a very challenging year because of COVID-19,” McBride said when she was presented with a framed plaque to commemorate the achievement. “There are literally dozens of nurses here who are deserving of this. I’m grateful to receive it not just for myself -- but for all of us -- because it’s nice to have some recognition for the work we’re all doing in the middle of this pandemic.

Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive Wanda Peebles agreed that all the nurses who have responded to COVID-19 deserve a sincere thank you. She said McBride was an excellent example of a nurse to be recognized.

“Chelsea is always willing to pitch in wherever she is needed and she loves to mentor nurses and help them grow,” Peebles said. “That is so emblematic of all our nurses here at JPS. I’m so proud of her for receiving this recognition and of all the nurses at JPS for how they’ve stood up for this community when it needed them to respond to COVID-19.”
