Program Overview

The JPS Sports Medicine Fellowship is a fully accredited, one year, longitudinal experience. Prerequisites for the program are a primary board eligibility or certification in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Our program is located in the DFW metroplex, and we are affiliated with a myriad of local high schools, as well as the team physicians for Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan University, and Southwest Assemblies of God University. Our training allows graduates to feel comfortable treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal and medical problems associated with athletes of all ages and experience levels.

We work with and provide coverage for a variety of athletic programs and organizations in the area including:

  • Fort Worth ISD
  • Arlington ISD
  • Texas Christian University Athletics
  • Texas Wesleyan University Athletics
  • Southwestern Assemblies of God University
  • Golden Gloves and other boxing associations
  • Hotter ’N Hell 100, an internationally recognized extreme cycling event
  • Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and Professional Bull Riders events

UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM

The Sports Medicine Fellowship at JPS Health Network is the largest primary care sports medicine fellowship in the nation, which allows us to be diverse and foster collegiality across specialties. In addition to traditional curriculum in Primary Care Sports Medicine, fellows train in diagnostic ultrasound, as well as fluoroscopic and ultrasound guided injections. Fellows work with all Sports Medicine CAQ certified faculty in the sports medicine clinic, and rotate with orthopedic specialists in sports medicine, hand surgery, podiatry, and shoulder and elbow pathology.

JPS Sports Medicine is proud to provide care to the TCU Horned Frogs. A member of the Big 12 Conference, TCU (Texas Christian University) is an NCAA Division I university located in Fort Worth. Our faculty and fellows provide comprehensive care, from primary care to injury treatment and prevention, to athletes in all sports at TCU. This experience provides fellows a unique experience in the treatment of highly competitive athletes.

JPS Family Medicine residency participates in a length of training program. Residents from JPS interested in completing a sports medicine fellowship have the opportunity to integrate additional sports medicine experience into their Family Medicine residency. Residents start their focus in sports medicine in their second and third years, allowing for a three year longitudinal experience. During their fourth year, all rotations are sports medicine focused. Due to the length of training program, the number of positions available through the NRMP match can vary from year to year.
