Our Research
CEHDR investigators provide actionable insight for improving healthcare delivery, optimizing patient outcomes, and advancing health equity through three types of research.
Health Services Research
How do we optimize healthcare utilization, increase efficiency, and reduce cost? Our work in this area includes:
- Testing interventions to increase access to primary and specialty care, reduce emergency department use, and reduce inpatient admissions
- Developing, validating, and updating prediction models for healthcare utilization to guide resource allocation for interventions
- Evaluating the effects of state or federal policies on healthcare utilization
Implementation Research
How do we accelerate the use of evidence-based practices in healthcare? Our work in this area includes:
- Testing strategies to optimize the implementation of evidence-based guidelines for disease prevention
- Testing strategies to optimize the implementation of evidence-based guidelines for chronic disease management (drug prescribing, procedures, etc.)
- Test strategies to de-implement ineffective or care practices with little to no benefit to patients (i.e., low-value care)
Outcomes Research
How do we reduce morbidity and mortality? Our work in this area includes:
- Evaluating the effects of drugs, devices, and procedures on health outcomes (e.g., mortality, morbidity, and quality of life)
- Developing, validating, and updating prediction models for health outcomes to guide personalized care
- Evaluating the effects of state or federal policies, regulations, and guidelines on health outcomes
