Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine

JPS Health Network’s Orthopaedics can help to free you from pain and restore your flexibility. Our staff of health care professionals will create and implement a treatment plan to manage pain and restore the ability to move freely.

The JPS Sports Medicine team specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating injuries related to athletics and physical activities. Our board certified physicians provide care to athletes of all ages throughout Tarrant County. They serve as team physicians for many of the area high schools located in Fort Worth and Arlington.

Care isn't limited to school-aged athletes. Adults and seniors and those who consider themselves "weekend warriors" are also seen and treated for previous injuries and those recently suffered.

All Patients

For new patients with third party coverage, you or your referring physician may contact the JPS Health Center, specialty service area or physician to schedule an appointment. The scheduler in that area will verify that the service requested is available at JPS and make an appointment for you. The scheduler will verify insurance coverage and that the service requested is covered by insurance. Any required authorizations will be requested. If your insurance does not cover the requested services or if your insurer does not authorize the service, you will be contacted and given the opportunity to pay for the service at the time of the appointment.

For new patients without third party coverage, please contact any JPS location and request an appointment. At the time the appointment is made, you will be advised of the fees for the visit you request. You will also be given the opportunity to make an appointment for financial screening if you would like assistance in paying applicable fees. The financial screening associates will assist you in determining any programs for which you may be eligible. Please bring requested information with you to your financial screening appointment. If eligible, you may choose to apply for JPS Connection, a program that provides fixed fees for services provided by JPS. View additional information on the JPS Connection program.

JPS Health Network and its affiliated facilities are contracted with the these insurance companies and provider networks to provide services to covered members at in-network benefit levels. We recommend that you contact your insurance company to confirm participation of JPS Health Network in your specific health plan.

Athlete Patients

Athletic patients should go through their trainer to be seen at the Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center. For school physicals, patients need to bring their completed and approved UIL form. If you play in a club or league sports or do not have access to a trainer, call Michele Kirk, MD, for an appointment at 817-852-8700.

Joint Replacement

Gain more independence, reduce pain, and improve your quality of life with joint replacement surgery from Acclaim Multi-Specialty Group, JPS Health Network’s physician group.

Joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty) is when an orthopaedic surgeon replaces part or all of a joint with an implant (a prosthesis). Joint replacement can provide relief and restore movement, so you can move without pain and return to the activities you enjoy.

Acclaim Multi-Specialty Group offers outpatient surgery, meaning you can return to the comfort of your home the same day as your joint replacement. Depending on the time of your surgery, you might need to stay in the hospital overnight.

Whenever possible, your surgeon uses minimally invasive techniques (smaller incisions) that reduce pain, scarring, and recovery time.

Do I Need Joint Replacement Surgery?

Talk to your primary care provider about getting a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon for joint replacement surgery if you are 55 years old or older and:

  • Have significant joint pain and stiffness.
  • Don’t get relief from treatments like physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and cortisone joint injections.
  • Are in overall good health.
  • Manage any existing health conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

Types of Joint Replacement Surgery

Your surgeon can perform:

  • Total and partial (unicompartmental) knee replacements and revisions.
  • Total and partial hip replacements and revisions.
  • Total reverse shoulder replacement.
  • Total elbow replacement.
  • Revision surgery (if a previous procedure didn’t lead to the results you hoped for).

To help you prepare for joint replacement surgery, your care team will:

  • Order and review diagnostic images.
  • Discuss current medications and your health history.
  • Make sure you feel confident about your procedure and recovery.

Take part in a joint replacement education class to feel better prepared for your surgery. You’ll learn how to prepare for surgery and a smooth recovery and receive guidance from our joint replacement experts.

After surgery, expect to:

  • Receive more than one type of pain relief so you can feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Return home the same day or the next day.
  • Begin physical therapy right away.
  • Experience less pain two months after surgery and continue to improve for up to five years after surgery.
  • Receive follow-up care two weeks after surgery and six weeks after surgery.
