When he started working at JPS Health Network four decades ago, Gregory Massey never imagined that he’d still be in the same place 40 years later. 

A prominent local artist has paid tribute to people who work behind the scenes to save lives during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with a series of portraits he’s created called “The Faces of JPS.”

D CEO Magazine named JPS Health Network the Outstanding Health System for the Dallas-Fort Worth region Tuesday during its 2020 Excellence in Healthcare Awards.

An agreement between JPS Health Network and the military will put U.S. Army surgeons to work for patients, while helping them gather some beneficial real-world experience working shoulder-to-shoulder with the doctors at the only Level I Trauma Center in Tarrant County.

Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) are often among the first faces patients see when they come to JPS Health Network. Still, much of the work they do to help people get the best care possible happens behind the scenes.

“On the surface, they do a lot of clerical work,” said Devon Armstrong, Director of Outpatient Care Management at JPS. “But there’s a lot more people might not see. They’re the backbone of our department because they do the things that have to be done to let us do our jobs to the best of our ability.”

Emergency Department Registered Nurse Chelsea McBride has been named the Readers’ Choice as Frontline Nurse of the Year by Fort Worth Weekly Magazine in its “Best of 2020” issue.

McBride said she was honored to even be nominated for the award, but she never expected that she’d win it.
