Curriculum
Curriculum 1
Our program is an ACGME-accredited program that provides a learning environment that meets all milestones set forth by the ACGME and ABOS.
Didactics
Weekly didactics are held each Wednesday morning from 7 a.m. - noon. Each week has a specific sub-specialty focus and is led by the respective sub-specialty faculty members. This time is protected from clinical demands so residents can focus on non-clinical learning.
Rotation Schedule
Research 1
All residents participate in clinical or basic science research and are required to prepare a manuscript suitable for presentation and publication by the completion of their residency at JPS. To support this, three months free from daily clinical requirements are dedicated to working on a research project.
Residents can either develop their own projects or join a project initiated by a faculty member. Our faculty members are engaged in research across all subspecialty areas within orthopaedics to help facilitate any research interests a resident might have.
The UNT Health Science Center offers collaborative opportunities through the Center for Anatomical Sciences and other departments for JPS residents. This collaboration provides access to cadaveric specimens, imaging modalities, and laboratory space. The long-standing partnership fosters a team approach, bringing together attending surgeons, resident surgeons, medical students, and graduate students to complete a variety of orthopaedic research topics. Biomechanical research is conducted using advanced equipment, including an MTS machine, ankle simulation rig, knee simulation rig, and other laboratory instruments. Additionally, C-arm fluoroscopy and 3D fluoroscopy are available for use in experiments and learning during cadaveric courses.
