Curriculum
The year is separated into half-month blocks. There are 24 blocks in a year. Although it may initially appear that the schedules do not add up into 52 weeks, if you count by blocks then it does add up to a full year.

- 4 blocks (8 weeks) of Internal Medicine Inpatient
- 2 blocks (4 weeks) of Family Medicine Outpatient
- 2 blocks (4 weeks) of Urgent Care
- 4 blocks (8 weeks) of Neurology
- 6 blocks (12 weeks) of Inpatient Psychiatry
- 3 blocks (6 weeks) of Addiction Psychiatry
- 4 blocks (8 weeks) of Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry
- 3 blocks (6 weeks) of Emergency Psychiatry

Call Schedule
- Inpatient Psychiatry – 1-2 TSP call shifts / month
- Psychiatric Emergency - No call shifts on night float
- Family Medicine / Neurology – 1 call shift a week but built into schedule so you are still working 5 days a week (excused from services during the day on Friday)
- Internal Medicine – no psychiatry call shifts. Call is based on Internal Medicine. Q 6 days.
- 1 – 2 call shifts a month
- 12 hour shift in the PEC
- Inpatient Saturday Call Shift – Seeing only new patients
- Moonlighters usually available
- PGY4’s take holidays
Didactics
- PGY1 and PGY2 – Tuesdays from 1:00 to 5:00 – Combined
- Protected Time
- 1 hour of introduction to psychotherapy.
- 3 hours of miscellaneous topics including psychotherapy, treatment, and psychiatric subspecialties such as geriatric, psychiatric emergency, child adolescent, forensics
- PGY3 and PGY4 – Friday from 8:00 to 12:00 – Combined
- Protected Time
- 1 hour of group psychotherapy
- 1 hour of board review
- 2 hours of miscellaneous topics such as genetics, natural disasters of psychiatry, business psychiatry, and other special topics
Psychotherapy
- During PGY1, weekly one hour individual psychotherapy discussion with psychologist about any topic that interest you. Done while on inpatient psychiatry.
- During PGY2, weekly one hour individual psychotherapy discussion with psychologist about any topic that interest you. Done throughout the whole year
- During PGY3 and PGY4, start of supervised psychotherapy with patient. Required to hold at least one patient at all times. Discuss cases as a group and individually with psychologist. Required training in psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive, and brief. However, it is what you make of it.
Research
- Required to do one scholarly activity project
- Multiple mentors in the program that will help guide you in your research interests – We have a psychiatry specific research division.
- Statisticians available
- We have had residents do national oral and poster presentations, publish papers, etc.
